Six Flags Great Adventure will reopen next week and begin celebrating its 50th anniversary season, park officials said Thursday.

The Jackson-based theme park will open weekends starting March 16, then open daily for spring break from March 28 to April 7, officials said.

Park officials are making the most substantial investment in the site in nearly two decades with new experiences and park enhancements across all three properties — Six Flags Great Adventure, Wild Safari and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, officials said. THE FLASH: Vertical Velocity will debut this season as the Ocean County theme park’s 15th roller coaster. THE FLASH will open this summer, but no official date has been announced yet, a park spokeswoman told NJ Advance Media.

The theme park is also unveiling Savannah Sunset Resort and Spa, a new “glamping” experience located within its Wild Safari. It is slated to open to guests June 14.

“Six Flags Great Adventure Resort remains committed to innovation and thrilling adventures, blending the present with a nod to our 50-year history,” said Brian Bacica, the park’s president.

“Whether it’s a guest’s first visit or their 50th, everyone, regardless of their thrill level, will discover new attractions, enhanced park features, exciting events and nostalgic highlights within our resort destination,” he said.

The Wild Safari park is opening March 30 with a new Safari Base Camp, located at the safari’s entrance and exit, park officials said.

The new base camp will allow guests to experience the Safari Off Road Adventure outside of the theme park. Off-road vehicles with a driver and guide will take guests on an immersive safari tour, officials said.

The area also includes retail stores, dining, a children’s play area and animal experiences.

The full list of new attractions this season includes:

  • THE FLASH: Vertical Velocity: The first triple-launch “super boomerang” coaster to open in North America rushes forward and backward at nearly 60 miles per hour through a 180-degree twisted drop and zero-G roll.

  • Savannah Sunset Resort and Spa: Guests can experience a “once-in-a-lifetime safari glamping experience” by staying overnight within the Wild Safari. It opens June 14.
