Rebel Nell is heading to the AIRPORT! ✈ Big NEWS! Rebel Nell has been awarded the small business contract at the airport through the SOAR Program to open our very own store in the Evans Terminal! This achievement is a testament to our relentless entrepreneurial persistence and the unwavering belief of our incredible team.No, this didn't happen overnight. No, it wasn't just a single phone call. This journey began about 10 years ago, with the seed being planted and the vision taking shape. The real push started more than 4 years ago, and it was far from easy. Along the way, we faced countless "nos" and "your too small, it won't work" but we never gave up. This accomplishment is a result of our team's dedication, hard work, and an unshakeable belief that we could make it happen. Growing up, I was best friends with my grandfather. He served in the Navy, and my childhood is filled with memories of him sharing stories from his time in the service. Although he wasn’t in the service for long, he often joked that his mere enlistment was the true threat that ended World War II. My grandfather was more than a hero; he was my confidant, my mentor, and my best friend.After his passing, we found several of his old Navy jackets. They were worn and weathered. We preserved one. The other that was in poor condition, I decided to repurpose it into gifts for our entire family. This way, we all have a tangible piece of his legacy, something to hold onto when we need a "grandpa fix."Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember those who have served and sacrificed for our country. For me, it's also a deeply personal day to reflect on my grandfather's legacy and the impact he had on our family. The process of transforming his jacket into keepsakes was both therapeutic and meaningful. Each piece, whether it was a pair of earrings, a necklace, or cuff links carried a part of his story and his spirit. Now, whenever I wear my necklace, I’m reminded of his wisdom, his kindness, his sense of humor and the countless lessons he taught me. It’s a comforting reminder that he’s still with us, guiding us through life's challenges.Memorial Day is more than just a long weekend or the unofficial start of summer. It’s a day to honor the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. It’s a time to reflect on the values they fought for and to ensure that their legacies are not forgotten. For those of us with personal connections to veterans, it’s a poignant reminder of their courage and dedication.By repurposing my grandfather’s jacket, I found a way to celebrate his life in a manner that is deeply personal and symbolic. Each item created from his jacket is a tribute to his legacy and a reminder of the values he stood for. Our name is even a tribute to the incredible Eleanor Roosevelt who paved the way for so many things (for another post). Have you seen the new zoo tower? Wondered what happened to the old mural that wrapped the zoo water tower for many years?I'm very excited about Rebel Nell's latest collaboration with the Detroit Zoological Society! This partnership is extra special because it comes with a unique backstory and a lot of heart.Nothing quite prepares you for running a business, especially planning a jewelry business around falcons! For the past two years, we’ve been eagerly waiting to repurpose the old water tower at the zoo. But nature had its own plans – a pair of falcons decided to make the tower their home! 🦅 In true animal conservation fashion, we let them nestle in and waited patiently until they were ready to find a new home.Today, we proudly launch a new collection made from the very materials of that old water tower, the 'Parade of Animals' Mural, that wrapped the water tower for years. This collection symbolizes resilience, restoration, conservation, patience, and the beauty of new beginnings. Every piece in this collection carries a story of transformation, much like our mission. What an incredible experience to attend my first Women Presidents Organization conference. It was an honor to gift the recipients of the 50 Fastest Growing Companies with a special custom Rebel Nell Necklace. Especially when two of the recipients are my sheroes Phyllis Newhouse and Andra Rush. This experience leaves me filled with a tremendous amount of gratitude and inspiration.
